What are the Career Development Training Programs at USPS

Basic Employee Development Training

Supervisor Training Program
The supervisor training program is conducted over a period of 16 weeks. The postal service job training program combines theoretical and practical learning. Participants of the supervisory training program are taught about the managerial skills such as team building, leadership and administration skills, communication skills, ethical conduct, and work safety. The program offers to specialize supervisory training for different functional areas including distribution, customer services, operations, and maintenance operations.
Leadership Training Program
The USPS also offers a number of advanced training programs to groom employees for the managerial position. There are three different training programs for the managerial position:
- Advanced Leadership Program (ALP)
- Managerial Leadership Program (MLP)
- Executive Leadership Program (ELP)
Duration of the leadership training program for the United States Postal Service job range from 5 days to 21 days. ALP is a 21-day program, MLP is a 14-day program, while ELP is a five-day program. The training programs are offered to individuals that are nominated by an Executive and approved by the Vice President. The training program targets employees from the headquarters as well as the field offices. Only those employees are selected who have displayed eagerness and ability to perform supervisory roles.
