US Postal Job Qualification Requirements| Postal Exam Review

If you want to be a part of the United States Postal Service, you should know of a few qualification standards. These eligibility criteria consist of age and physical requirements that should be met with before you appear for the exams. The applicants have to be a certain age, should have a driver license, and have to pass a drug test too. Once you meet all the requirements, you are scheduled for a test.
When you are applying for the job, you should print out the job announcement and should scrutinize it because it has important information that you will need during the entire process. You should be at least 18 years of age when applying for the job, but there are certain conditions that allow 16 years old to apply too. However, if you are applying for a carrier or driver’s position, you need to be at least 18 years of age.
US Postal Job Entrance Exams
You have to pass the postal exam in order to be a mail-handling employee. Even specialists have to pass the test in order to be considered for any position. The end result is evaluated with the help of the qualifications, test result and experience of the candidate. There are a few positions that don’t need the entrance exam and the candidates are hired on the basis of their prior experience and qualifications. The carrier exams consist of the 473 and 473 C and 473 E Battery exams and the difference lies in the title of the occupation and the way the test is taken. The 473 test covers the following positions:
- Sales, Service, and Distribution Associate
- Rural Carrier
- Mail Processing Clerk
- Mail Handler
- City Carrier
Other Entrance Exams
Some of the other exams consist of the following:
- 955 is for mechanics and technicians
- 943 is for automotive mechanic
- 941 is for automotive technician
- 931 is for maintenance positions
- 916 is for the laborers
- 807 is for the drivers
- 744 is for Accounting Technicians
- 715 is the data entry test
- 714 is a computer based test
- 712/713 is the typing test
- 710 for admin and secretaries.
- 630 for the postal police officer
- 473-473E for clerks and mail handlers
Requirements
- All the candidates should be US citizens or should have a permanent resident status.
- All the candidates will be evaluated for their work history, conviction history, and medical assessment. Medical assessment is conducted after the candidate is hired for the postal service job.
- The carriers should be able to carry 70 pounds of sacks and should have a 20/40 vision.
They should have a valid driver’s license for the postal service jobs.
